A lovely start to 2026 with a decent match on the "other" bank of Newcastle. Matt Dalton sat on the days Gold peg, so nearly took the biggest ever payout seen by the Hyde Park. He was counting the £ notes but was just pipped by a fine 48lb bag of carp from Paul Bell. Matts mainly silver fish net of 46lb had to settle for 2nd spot instead. Kirky still leads the way with one match left, today he took a fine silver fish bag of 36lb from unfancied peg 46. Elsewhere away from the hot spots Alex Dalton 23lb and Chris Bell 26lb had a fine peg to peg silver fish tussle, rumours of a sweet vanilla smell in the air remain unconfirmed.

Pete Elliott joined us as a guest for the last round of the Winter League and what a day he had from peg 25 on the Duke. Early carp on the method feeder got him going, a few skimmers on the pole helped then a last gasp carp down the margin on the method was the icing on the cake. This was enough for 53lb and his first ever Hyde Park win. Elsewhere a few decent nets of mainly skimmers were recorded. Chris Bell took second place with nearly 41lb from peg 8, Kirky had nearly the same weight from peg 28 and this was enough to secure the 2025/26 Winter League title. Matt Dalton recovered from a terrible start to win his section with 39lb on peg 24. He is Runner Up this year. Thank you to everyone who supported this years Winter League.
